Get Some Help
“Two are better than one… For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth… a threefold cord is not quickly broken.”—Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
I will always remember Donny Parrish reading this passage and saying, “A threefold cord: that’s you, a friend, and God.” Because of our American spirit of achievement and individuality, we get the impression that the stronger we are spiritually, the more of life we can handle by ourselves. I’ve watched too many believers self-destruct because of this spiritual “He-man” syndrome. Just get some help!
We weren’t designed to walk through life alone. We’re here to help each other. Don’t feel bad when you need help from outside yourself. When you were saved, you were totally helpless. If your best friend, Jesus, hadn’t come along, you’d be lying in a spiritual gutter. To put a Mosaic twist on Solomon’s words, “Thou shalt rely on others!!!”
Is there a problem you’re facing that you can’t talk about with a friend? Then that problem is out of control. Tap into the power of a friend today. If you’re not sure you’re saved, tap into the power of Jesus, your eternal best friend. Admit your sinfulness and utter helplessness and lean upon Him by faith to save you. Like a good friend, He’ll always be there to pick you up!
