God, Fair and Balanced

The world around us does not always value equality. I’m writing this devotional from the sixth floor of a downtown Atlanta Hotel. Here I can order room service and pay an exorbitant fee, have the USA Today at my door each morning, and sleep in a king-size bed. Within a block are people sleeping under cardboard. If we’re not careful, we may become cynical or bitter about the nature of society to size people up and dole out privileges to the already privileged.

God, however, is always fair in His assessments of our lives. He punishes all the wicked, He rewards, by grace, all who place their faith and trust in Jesus Christ. Hollywood actors and Washington dignitaries will have no special pass into the eternal kingdom of God. All must come through the blood of the same Lord Jesus. All will face inevitable death and all will stand at the great judgment bar of God someday.

It won’t matter what you have done or how much you have earned. It will, however, matter what you’ve done with Jesus. Is He your Lord and Savior? Do you live as though He is Lord of your life? Remember, your status with God is tied entirely to how you relate to His Son. In Christ, the playing field is level and everyone gets a chance!
