The Actions of Paul in Acts

Posted by Brandon on Monday, August 14th, 2006 under Missions

Most men love “action” movies. I remember my Dad sitting in the recliner watching old Westerns (i.e. - primitive action movies) and counting the bullets coming out of the guns. He shouted with glee when he caught seven bullets coming out of the six-shooter. There’s something about action that thrills us.

God is a God of action. From the beginning of creation, God has been acting behind the scenes of human history. In fact, history is really the story of God’s sovereign hand over creation, guiding events toward the final redemption of His purchased possession and the restoration of Israel to their eternal Kingdom. The book of Acts is filled with action as well. It is the record of the apostles, acting in the power of the Holy Spirit to begin the task of fulfilling the Great Commission.

Consider some of the great “action” words related to Paul’s ministry in the book of Acts… In Thessalonica (17:1-4) Paul reasoned, opened, alleged, and preached from the Scriptures. In Epehsus (20:20-21) he showed them, taught them, and testified publicly and from house to house. And even in his residential jail cell in Rome, Paul expounded, testified, and persuaded the Jews out of the Scriptures.

The Great Comission is really all about going, telling, doing, sharing, opening, alleging, and preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. Are you a person of action? One of my great faults is spending too much time dreaming and planning, and not enough time doing! Let’s get going with the gospel and be people of “Acts-ion!”
