ONE GREAT TRUTH: The foundation upon which our faith is built – the blood of Christ and the Word of God – is unshakable, unchanging, and everlasting.
We’re watching an interesting thing happen in our world right now. We’re watching the erosion of the value of currency. The reason world leaders are gathering is because of the instability of the American dollar and its effect upon world markets. In other words, we’re watching God’s truth unfold before our very eyes – the things in which we often place our hope and faith are corruptible. They rot, they rust, they fade away.
As a matter of fact we live in a disposable culture. It’s the age of everything from paper plates to cheaply made televisions. Today’s hottest cell phone is yesterday’s news. God said it would be this way with all of the riches of the world. He also said it is true of our very lives – our physical bodies are temporary houses.
It all begs the question – is there anything permanent and lasting? Is there anything that won’t fade away to which I can attach my life? Is there a Rock upon which I can stand? God’s answer is absolutely!
There are two messages that God wanted to get across concerning our hope and our faith…
1. We were not redeemed with corruptible things like silver or gold, but with the incorruptible and priceless blood of Christ.
God makes a comparison about the value of money versus the value of the blood which His Son shed on the cross. All the money and wealth in the world is not to be compared with the value of the life which Jesus died on Calvary. His blood is precious and priceless.
2. We were not reborn not of corruptible seed, but by the incorruptible power of the Word of God.
The Word of God shall stand forever. It is incorruptible. Bibles themselves will rot and tear over time, but God’s Word – the expression of His mind and will – is an eternally unchanging matter.
Our entire hope stands upon these two factors, the priceless blood of Christ and the incorruptible Word of God.
