I’ve Joined the Club – I’m an Apple / Mac Owner

I have agonized over my decision to buy a Mac for quite some time, primarily because of the cost. You can get twice as much “stuff” for the money in a PC. But… the Mac works. It works hard. It reads my mind!

Last night I finally broke down and bought a new Macbook Pro 15. In case you care, it has…

  • 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor
  • 4GB of 1066 MHz DDR3 SDRAM
  • 250GB 5400-rpm hard drive (would’ve preferred the 7200)
  • 15.4 inch LED-backlit glossy widescreen (1440×900 res)
  • NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics processor
  • Built-in iSight video camera
  • 8x slot-loading SuperDrive (DVD+R DL/DVD+RW/CD-RW)
  • Lots of other stuff, and the keyboard lights up!

Plus it came with stickers! I have stickers already that came with my iphone but was strictly warned not to put them on anything until I was an actual Mac owner.

Here’s what I’ve discovered so far about being a Mac owner…

  1. Macs look nice – no PC looks nicer.
  2. Macs work. Downloading and installing apps is a breeze.
  3. Mac owners are extremely helpful. When I have a question, I ask it on Twitter and get a ton of replies.
  4. The dock is addictive. Sometimes I strum it like a guitar for fun.

I’ll have a lot more to learn, I’m sure. I’m already beginning to peruse Mac enthusiast and app sites. It’s nice.

I’d like to thank God for it – He’s my Provider. I’d also like to thank my awesome wife for the three most powerful things she’s ever said to me…

  • “I do.”
  • “I’m pregnant.”
  • “You should go ahead and get a Mac.”

    • Brandon November 11, 2009 at 10:12 am #

In the twelve hours I’ve had mine – I’m lovin’ it already.

Good stuff Brandon, I made the switch last Summer after 10+ yrs on PC’s – it’s a choice you won’t regret I can assure you. From the build quality, to GTD, to having fun, it’s streets ahead. ;o)

Yes, a computer made out of (basically) one single piece of aluminum – better than the 2,000 plastic pieces and scotch tape holding my HP together.

We became an Apple family about five years ago. The desktop is still going strong. Two years ago, when I accepted a call to the church I currently serve, the congregation purchased a MacBook for me. I will never go back to the PC world.

Your wife clearly loves you very much.

Mark, I’m with you already. In two days, I’ve seen so many advantages to having a Mac that I’ll never go back either. They just work.

Farrhad A (above) pointed me to this post, when I tweeted about needing tips and hints for my 1st day on a Mac with a clear instruction of reading your post till the end. Now I know why!

Mac-virgin are the words i used – it’s been some time since I’ve been a virgin at anything!!! )

Hope my Mac journey is far better than my Windows journey – where the tyres ran flat, battery ran dry and AAA just did not exist.

Agree with Farrhad, great sense of humor!

I love Apple products. But they are too expensive for me. So I stay with my PC. :)
