Pray for us as we plant Grace Hills Church in northwest Arkansas.

The Light of the Salvation of God

Light has the amazing ability to pierce the darkness around it. It doesn’t take much. I read of a team of skiers who were lost in the Alps of Switzerland. They were rescued because a helicopter was able to spot the light coming from the display of an mp3 player.

ONE GREAT TRUTH: The whole world has been lost and condemned in sin, but Jesus came to pierce the darkness, to the the light of God’s salvation, leading us back into a saving relationship with our Creator.

Jesus Pierces The Darkness of Depravity

That is, our separation from God. We are creatures who have been cut off from our Creator by our own sinfulness. We are destined to wander in the darkness of this separation unless God does something about it, revealing Himself to us.

We are lost. Groping. Wandering. Searching. And God will be found – He is determined to be found, so He sent His Son to be the Savior.

“As many as received him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name…” ~ John 1:12

Jesus Pierces The Darkness of Despair

The world waited for the Savior and many gave up on Him. The world in the time of Jesus was a darkened place. For the Jews, it was a time of poverty and oppression. But worse, it was a time of silence, when God had withheld His voice from speaking for over 400 years. No prophets, no angels, no revelation from God until the story of Jesus begins.

In the story of Jesus, we find the light that pierced the darkness of their despair. God had spoken by sending His Son as our Savior.

I think we have similar feelings to theirs. We’ve waited so long for the return of Christ in such a difficult world, full of pain, suffering, and marked by depravity. It’s a sinful and abrasive world. But Jesus pierces the darkness of our despair.

Jesus Pierces The Darkness of Death

The story of Jesus’ birth is beautiful, but it isn’t the end. Jesus grew into a man, served the world and then died on the cross to pay for the sins of humanity. Darkness fell over the cross for three hours, and over the world for three days. But on the third day, Jesus rose again!

In His resurrection, the sting of death was removed. Death is no foe anymore, but the ultimate deliverance for believers in Christ. And His second coming will some day pierce the darkness of the hour in which we live!

Jesus came to be the light of the world – to reveal God, remove despair, and redeem us eternally. Have you come to Him as Redeemer and Savior? Have you received Him?
