Life Here and There has been on the air, so to speak, since the summer of 2005 and as of today, has just over 1,500 subscribers (via rss feed or email). It’s a really good number for a personal/pastoral blog. This is nice! Thanks to all of you!!
If you ever wanted to help me out, here are three little ways…

Today I released a new WordPress theme for the general public called Old News. I mention it here, partly because I want to get the word out, but also because I think it’s a great theme for ministry leaders who blog, or want to get started blogging. I’m especially happy with the strength of the code. It was developed in a WordPress 2.8 environment, is well-widgetized, and features such things as threaded discussions, breadcrumbs (without a plugin), and tabbed sidebars (like this site).

One of my online heroes is John Saddington. He’s got one of those dream jobs doing tech and social media stuff for Andy Stanley and Northpoint Church. He’s also started at least 23 blogs! One of my favorites of all belongs to John (aka, human3rror), Church Crunch.
Today, John sends out this post on Ten Reasons Your Pastor Should Blog. Not only do I agree with John’s reasons, but if you’re a Pastor and you’re new to the idea of blogging, you need to be checking John’s site often. Just wanted to pass along this great resource, now get started blogging!

This is my 401st blog post at brandonacox.com. I’ve been at it since the middle of 2005 when I didn’t have a clue how to really blog. (Amazing how the word “blog” has become both a verb and a noun.) I’ve learned a lot about the art of blogging over the last three and a half years and wanted to impart some knowledge to fellow church leaders who may also be interested in blogging. Just some simple tips, nothing too technologically advanced…

Do you have a ministry or tech related blog? John, over at Church Crunch, just added a blog directory to his site to connect ministry blogs with each other…

Al Mohler published a blog article today entitled Is the Abortion Argument Changing?. It’s excellent. At the end, he references a sermon by Russell Moore that makes the argument that Joseph (Jesus’ step-father) was a “single-issue evangelical.”
I’m fairly progressive. I’m quite forward-thinking. But when it comes to the issue of life in relationship to politics, elections, legislation, etc., abortion is still a deal-breaker for me. Am I a narrow-minded single-issue evangelical? Absolutely. Why? Because the whole time we’re focused on…
The environment.
Unemployment.
Taxes.
Welfare.
Healthcare.
The war.
Foreign relations.
The economy.
Defense.
New energy sources.
God is focused on the innocent. He always has been. He always will be. We can say “just look beyond this one issue.” As far as I’m concerned, that’s like asking the guy who is having a heart attack to focus on his runny nose. We have a problem for which God will surely pour out His wrath. They are ultimately his babies, after all.
And here’s another point: Abortion IS Racism! Read or watch…

Here’s an article we all need to read about controlling the tongue. James said it best – master the tongue and you can master anything! Thanks for posting these, Kevin – great article!

What do I do in my spare time? I design web sites. In particular, I design themes for a content management system called WordPress. I believe that WordPress is one of the most powerful and easy-to-use tools for online ministry. I’ve released several free themes to the general public and my newest one, Bible Scholar, may look familiar, since I formed it from the design of this site.

Hey fellow Pastors, I’ve been writing my own blog since 2005. I’ve recently passed the 300 article mark and consisently receive a good number of visits via various search engines and other incoming links. It’s been a fun way to reflect on life, Scripture, culture, family, and everything in between. Here’s a link to a great article on John Piper’s blog on why every Pastor ought to have a blog.
The easiest way to get started is with a blogger blog, though I’d highly recommend WordPress as the ultimate blogging platform. You can use the free, hosted solution at WordPress.com or I’d be happy to host your blog for you (and handle some backend issues like email, upgrades, etc.) for a minimal hosting charge – just contact me if you’re interested.

Just a note. I googled (amazing how that word became a verb) for “pastoral blog” and I was #6. For “pastor blog” I was #30 and for “pastors blog” I came in at #27. Most people who read this may not understand or care about the significance, but to me, it’s pretty cool to come up in the top 30 Google results for those search terms. Just thought I’d share.
